Wet n Wild Mega Slicks Lip Color Pencil

I wanted to show you another discovery I made during my ongoing quest to find L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows (Oh...it's on!)  I came across a Wet nWild display and saw a row of these fun lip color pencils....and I do so love lip color pencils!  They are fast becoming a makeup obsession.

I've seen many a Wet n Wild display but I had not seen these.  They were on sale so I looked at a few and decided to try one out.  First thing I noticed, and I don't know if you can tell by these images, but the lipstick in the tube was covered almost with a powdery coating.  I knew this would wipe off but it made all the colors pretty much indistinguishable from one another.  I just grabbed a color that sounded interesting and bought it.

The color I tried was Spicy Amaretto.  This is a nice rusty brick color, with a satin finish.  It applies smoothly and opaquely and I got 3-4 hours of wear out of this shade before I noticed significant fading.  This formula is mildly drying, but my lips are prone to dryness (which is why no lippie swatch on this post, my lips just ain't havin it this week.) *Update 2-4 Adding lip swatches on the bottom!
There is much to love about these pencils.   First in the love column, they TWIST up!  This is a huge plus for me.  I love lipstick pencils, but I hate losing product to sharpening.  I hate it so much that I have a Stila Lip Glaze pencil my daughter smashed that  refuse to sharpen, won't do it.  I am in denial.  If I wait long enough, the makeup gnomes will come covert all my lipstick pencils to twisties..I just know it.  If WnW can make an advancing lipstick pencil for under $2.00, anyone can.  Stop the madness!

Another check in the love column is the formula.  WnW touts this as a lip liner, lipstick and lip gloss rolled into one.  It's great, but it is not an all in one product.  This is very nice liptick pencil.  It does not replace a lip liner and while it has a nice sheen, it is not a lip gloss.  The only color I tried that was more gloss then lipstick was Caramel Latte. Caramel latte applied more sheerly then the rest and reminded me most of a Stila Lip Glaze pencil.  When I think of a lipstick/lipliner combo I think of products like Buxom Big & Healthy Lipstick or Milani Lip Flash.  Those both have a drier/stickier application that makes them more suited to be a dual purpose product.  These need help to stay put, but the formulas are comfortable to wear and nicely opaque.

Here are some swatches.  I believe I was able to try all but one "Passion Fruit Pink"
Left to right: Spicy Amaretto (rusty brick red), Caramel Latte ( warm bronze gloss) Plum Pudding (berry wine)  Peach Fuzz ( warm golden peach) Mixed Berry ( icy bubblegum pink)

Wet n Wild is just knocking it out of the park lately.  The brand is starting to grow leaps and bounds in quality.  It's come a long way from the 50 cent lipstick I remember from my youth.

Addition 2-4-12  I decided to put up some lip swatches.

Mixed Berry
Peach Fuzz
Plum Pudding

Caramel Latte (this applies poorly)
Spicy Amaretto

Where to buy:  Local Stores like Target
Price: $1.99
