Sonia Kashuk's Blending Sponge: Answering Prayers and Spreading Laughter

Foundation was always my beauty foe.  No matter what I tried, or how I tried to apply it, I just couldn't achieve the results that came so easily to others.  My skin still looked uneven, splotchy, flaky or flaky and oily at the same time (my personal fav) .  I struggled for years, buying heavier and heavier foundations.  I thought maybe fuller coverage was the answer.  It wasn't.

I began to suspect it was my application technique.  I progressed from fingers to sponges in my youth.  It was ok...nothing earth shattering.  Then, I learned about brushes!  I ran out and bought my MAC 187 brush, surely this was my savior.  Nope, it exacerbated my flaky areas and I felt even more disillusioned.

Then Beauty Blender sponges hit the beauty world and people flipped out.  Just another sponge in my eyes.  I went down that road before, I wouldn't be fooled so easily.  Eventually I stumbled upon a great foundation  *hugs MUFE HD* I was almost there.  That's when I saw a video by Gossmakeup Artist discussing the virtues of the now broad range of beauty blender sponges.  He said they give an amazing natural finish when used to bounce foundation onto the skin.  Now I had swiped, patted, rubbed and buffed...but never bounced.  I love Wayne Goss, and when he recommends a technique or product, my ass listens!  That's how I met my new best friend.....

This is the Sonia Kashuk blending sponge. We met in Target, and despite my husbands snickers (yes I know what it looks like) it came right home with me. This is a dense natural rubber sponge, designed to fit comfortably in your hand, while providing a variety of surfaces to help you achieve your flawless look.  While I have not tried the original Beauty Blender sponge, I like the variety of surfaces on this particular sponge.  The wide base was perfect for covering the large parts of my face, while the contoured edge and pointed tip helped me work product into hard to reach areas like the nose and undereye.  So that is how it works...but does it work?  Is this answer to my decades long beauty nightmare..............................................YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When used damp, in conjunction with the "bounce" technique I learned from Gossmakeupartist I achieved the most beautiful finish I've ever seen.  Gone was the thin veil of foundation that hovered above my skin like a mask.  The texture of this sponge helps mimic the texture of the skin.  You can easily and effectively build up your foundation by simply bouncing a little more product over the desired areas.  Since I no longer buff or rub the skin, I also have practically no flaking around the nose and mouth.  Win!

Final Thoughts

Quite simply stated, this one little sponge answered my prayers and gave me more beauty confidence.  I dearly wish I could get a detailed enough picture to show you the difference, but my cameras (re: my phone) macro isn't powerful enough.  But please trust me when I say, you NEED this.
