Set Sail With Meow Cosmetics Castaway Collection

Over the last few months I've been falling deeper and deeper in love with Meow Cosmetics.  I first learned of them from Phyrra.net and from there I began exploring their website.  And I do mean explore.  For all the great things about Meow, which are many, their website can be overwhelming and confusing to navigate.  Some of their best collections are buried so deep within their site they can be missed entirely if you don't know their sub pages...but I digress.  So... they are awesome! I've tried their shadows, blushes, primers, correctors, concealers and foundations.  Loved 'em all.   One collection in particular keeps popping up as the "must buy" collection.  Castaway.....

"Inspired by the colors and emotions of the worlds most beautiful beaches. Quiet, calm, serene, beautiful and as unpredictable as the ocean itself."  Castaway is a surprisingly rich collection.  Meow Cosmetics shadows are complex in a way that does not always come across in photos. I had a tough time figuring out why people were so worked up over Castaway.  Then I saw this tutorial by the lovely Phyrra.  She showcased Siesta Key and I placed my order that night.  My only regret is I didn't buy them all.

Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Bay is a frosted rose toned taupe.

Cinnamon Bay

Cinnamon Bay is a medium rosey golden taupe

Bora Bora

Bora Bora  Y U No photograph better? Bora Bora is an intriguing olive with gold and copper notes.

Siesta Key

Siesta Key is a burnished copper over a rosey charcoal base.  This is a knockout color.

Final Thoughts

I encourage you to grab these shadows while you can.  I was floored by how pretty and interesting these shadows are.   Really, most of Meow Cosmetics shadows are like that.  Pretty, until you swatch them, then they are punch you in the face stunners.  Castaway is a limited edition collection, so don't snooze.  If you try only one..make it Siesta Key.  That color is a workhorse!

  2. It's so much more pretty in person and it makes AMAZING smokey eyes. I am buying backups, I don't ever want to be without it.

  3. Siesta Key is one of the colors I passed on, only because, for me, it's not one of my favorites. I love all the others, though!! Hopefully Meow will bring this one back next summer, along with the other summer collections. (I really love that they do that...I can buy samples without the pressure of "buy fullsize now or lose out forever OMGOMGOMG"

  4. LiAnn, that is good to know. I've seen two collections come back, so it's nice to know you don't have to panic buy. Do they bring most limited collections back, or only some?

  5. The past three Christmases that I've been buying from them, they've brought back all the collections they had the previous Christmas-season, plus added several new ones. Same with their Halloween collections, and the summer ones: Lost Rainforest and Caribbean Escape (and now, probably, Summer Spirits, Joys of Summer, and Castaway.) The Pleasures collection was released, was available for nearly a year, went back into the vault, and came out for most of this past summer. So yep, they cycle things through. I think that their End of Days, which is going away on 12/21/2012, is one of their only true "limited edition" collections that I'm aware of. The others are permanent (Egyptian Treasures, Shattered Equinox,) or seasonally recurring.

  6. Wow, Hanalei Bay and Siesta Key are the sorts of colors I can see myself wearing every day, and I am heading over to see Phyrra's tutorial using Siesta Key! Someday I will place another order with Meow Cosmetics... I totally agree that a lot of what makes their shades so spectacular doesn't translate well in photographs.
